Keynote: Birger Hjørland: Theories of Knowledge Organization - Theories of Knowledge (Text, Slides)

Thematik

„Wissen“ ist ein vielschichtiger Begriff; der u.a. in der Informationsvermittlung und -verarbeitung unter einem mehr praktischen Verständnis Eingang gefunden hat. In der Wissenschaftstheorie werden dagegen grundlegende Bedingungen der Entstehung und intersubjektiven Verständigung untersucht. Unter Wissensorganisation wird speziell die Systematisierung und Einordnung von Information über Wissen verstanden. Hierunter fallen Bibliotheksschemata, Katalogisierungsregeln, semantische Vernetzungen, bibliometrische Auswertungen, Metadaten von Webinhalten, Annotierungen von Bildmaterial, Ontologien für Informationsmedien. Die verschiedenen Dimensionen des Umgangs mit Wissen sind nicht unabhängig voneinander, sondern bauen teilweise aufeinander auf, bzw. bedingen sich gegenseitig. Die Tagung soll darum dazu beitragen, neuere Ansätze vorzustellen, ihre theoretischen Annahmen aufzuarbeiten und ihre praktischen Implikationen herauszuarbeiten. Sie bewegt sich damit im Grenzbereich von Informationstheorie, Wissenschaftstheorie, Wissensmanagement und Informationswissenschaft. Angesprochen werden damit u.a. Informationswissenschaftler, Wissenschaftstheoretiker, Wirtschaftsinformatiker, Bibliothekswissenschaftler, Sozialwissenschaftler, Bibliometriker.

Beiträge

Willkommen sind Beiträge, die insbesondere die theoretischen und praktischen Rahmenbedingungen der Wissensorganisation beleuchten; dabei können bspw. auch fachspezifische oder kulturspezifische Aspekte untersucht werden. Als Beiträge sind Vorträge von 20 Min. Länge in Deutsch oder Englisch vorgesehen. Andere Formen wären im Einzelfall abzusprechen. Zur Beurteilung wird die Zusendung eines Extended Abstract in Word oder PDF an die unten angegebene E-Mail-Adresse erbeten.

Issue

"Knowledge" is a broad term, which is used under a more practical understanding in the context of information transfer and processing. In contrast, in Philosophy of Science the basic conditions of the emergence of intersubjective communication are examined. Under "knowledge organization" specifically the systematization and classification of information about knowledge is understood. This includes library schemes, cataloging rules, semantic networks, bibliometric analysis, web content metadata, annotations of images, ontologies for information media. The various dimensions of dealing with knowledge are not independent, but partly build upon each other, or are dependent from each other. The conference will therefore help to introduce new approaches, to work through their theoretical assumptions, and to work out its practical implications. The conference is therefore located at the limits of information theory, philosophy of science, knowledge management and information science. It addresses inter alia Information Scientists, Philosophers of Science, Business Informatics, Library Scientists, Social Scientists, Bibliometricians.

Contributions

We welcome contributions that particularly highlight the theoretical and practical framework of knowledge organization. This includes also, for example, the examination of subject-specific or culture-specific aspects. Contributions are intended as talks of 20 minutes length in English or German. Other forms would be agreed on demand. To be refereed sending an extended abstract (one to two pages) in Word or PDF format to the below e-mail address is requested.
